Tax Return (Belastingaangifte)
The tax return (belastingaangifte) is the annual form you use to tell the Tax Authority how much you earned, what deductions you have, and how much wealth you own. Based on this, the Tax Authority calculates how much income tax you owe or will receive back. The return for a tax year must be filed before May 1 of the following year. If you can't make it, you can request an extension until September 1. Most data is now pre-filled by the Tax Authority. You log in with your DigiD at Mijn Belastingdienst and check, supplement, and submit your return.
Example
In March 2026, you complete your return for 2025. You see the Tax Authority has already filled in your salary and mortgage details. You add your healthcare costs and donations, check everything, and submit. Within a few weeks you receive your final assessment.
Why does this matter?
The tax return is when you can claim your deductions and potentially get money back. Many Dutch residents leave money on the table by not completing their return carefully. Let us handle your return and don't miss a euro.
