Tax Authorization (Machtiging)
An authorization (machtiging) is a written or digital permission allowing someone else – such as a tax advisor – to handle your tax affairs with the Tax Authority on your behalf. This can include filing your return, requesting extensions, submitting objections, or arranging benefits. There are different types of authorizations. The most common is the authorization for filing income tax returns. As an individual, you grant authorization via Mijn Belastingdienst or with a paper form. Tax advisors and firms often work with a professional authorization allowing them to act for multiple clients at once.
Example
You hire Jan de Belastingman to do your tax return. Via Mijn Belastingdienst you authorize us as your tax consultant. We can then view your pre-filled data, complete and submit your return, and if necessary file an objection.
