Annual Statement (Jaaropgave)

The jaaropgave (annual statement) is a document you receive each year from your employer, pension fund, or benefits agency. It contains an overview of your total salary or benefits for the past year, plus the payroll tax withheld. You need the jaaropgave to correctly complete your tax return. The annual statement must be provided to you by February of the following year. Nowadays, the figures are usually pre-filled in your return at Mijn Belastingdienst. Always verify that the pre-filled amounts match your jaaropgave – errors occur regularly.

Example

Your employer sends you the annual statement for 2025 in February 2026. It shows you earned €48,000 gross and that €14,200 in payroll tax was withheld. When filing your return, you check whether these amounts match what was pre-filled.

Why does this matter?

The annual statement is the starting point of your tax return. Keep this document safe and always check it against your payslips. If the amounts don't match, contact your employer before filing your return.
