Cross-border taxation: key figures for non-residents
Living abroad while earning Dutch income creates complex tax obligations. Tax treaties between the Netherlands and your country of residence determine how income is taxed.
C-form
Required
Non-residents with Dutch income must file a C-form (aangifte buitenlandse belastingplicht) in the Netherlands.
Qualifying non-resident rule
90% threshold
If 90% or more of your worldwide income is taxed in the Netherlands, you may qualify for the same deductions as Dutch residents.
Tax treaties
100+ countries
The Netherlands has tax treaties with over 100 countries to prevent double taxation on the same income.
Dutch property income
Always taxed in NL
Rental income or gains from Dutch real estate are always taxable in the Netherlands, regardless of your residence.
Social security
Country-dependent
EU/EEA workers generally pay social contributions in the country of employment. A1 certificate may be required.
Filing deadline
1 May 2026
Non-residents must file before 1 May, same as residents. Extensions are possible upon request.
