What can you deduct as a freelancer?
As a self-employed entrepreneur, you can deduct many costs from your taxable profit. That lowers your tax bill. The main categories for 2025 are below.
Home office
According to the Belastingdienst, costs for a workspace in your home are only deductible in limited situations. In most cases you cannot simply deduct part of your rent, mortgage, energy bill, or internet costs. Only if the workspace meets strict conditions could part of the costs become deductible.
Business mileage
Do you use a private car, motorbike, or bicycle for business? In 2025 you can deduct EUR 0.23 per business kilometre from your profit. That rate already includes costs such as fuel, insurance, tolls, and parking. Keep a proper mileage log.
Office supplies and equipment
Laptop, phone, desk, chair, and office supplies can generally be deducted if you use them for your business. For larger investments, depreciation may apply.

Taking a course that is relevant to your work? Those costs are generally deductible as business expenses. The same usually applies to trade journals and professional books.
Note: Always keep your receipts and invoices. Without proper records, you cannot support the deduction.
